Quick answer
Open Meet’s Settings → Audio and look for Noise cancellation. Some Workspace accounts with Gemini show Studio sound instead. If neither appears, check eligibility and your organisation’s settings before troubleshooting the Mac.
Find the current audio control
Before joining or during a meeting, open More options → Settings → Audio. Enable Noise cancellation if it is available. Google’s current support page says Studio sound replaces that setting for Workspace accounts with Gemini.
The same support page describes account-dependent availability. Check which Google account is active, especially if the browser contains both a personal and work profile. An administrator may need to confirm the feature available to your organisation.
Know what the control is meant to remove
Google describes its noise cancellation as a way to reduce non-speech sounds, such as typing. It says voices from a television or nearby people are not cancelled. If that is your problem, repeatedly searching for the switch may not solve it.
Keep music and instruments in mind too. A setting intended to preserve speech can suppress wanted non-speech audio. Use the appropriate meeting audio configuration for the content you need to share. See Google’s guidance for current limitations.
If Meet cannot hear you at all
Make sure the meeting is unmuted and that the browser has permission to use the microphone. A browser meeting can involve both a site permission and a macOS permission for the browser. Noise cancellation cannot recover a signal that never reaches the meeting.
Check your physical microphone in another suitable app. If it works there, return to Meet’s Audio settings and explicitly choose the expected input. After changing permissions, follow any restart or reload instructions shown by the browser or macOS.
Use KleenMic as Meet’s microphone
A separate microphone filter does not require Meet’s own cancellation switch. In KleenMic, choose the physical microphone and enable noise removal. Then choose KleenMic Microphone in Meet’s Audio settings.
Start with headphones and a private test. Keep Meet’s extra processing modest while checking the dedicated filter, and adjust one setting at a time. Our setup guide explains compatibility, installation and the three-day trial.
Separate a routing problem from a noise problem
Swipe sideways to see every column.
| What happens | Check next |
|---|---|
| No one hears you | Mute, permission and selected input |
| Voice works but typing is loud | Microphone position and filtering |
| Only the beginning of words disappears | Additional processing and input level |
| It changes after reconnecting a headset | The input selected in both apps |
Write down the result of each change. Returning to a known working selection is much easier when you have not changed several controls at once.
Repeat the check where you work
A quiet-room test confirms the signal path. It does not confirm how well a filter handles the café, shared room or keyboard you usually use. Repeat a short sentence in the normal environment and ask a listener about intelligibility.
If the problem follows you into other meeting apps, use the Mac microphone checklist. If it appears only in Meet, concentrate on the browser, selected account and Meet audio settings.
Common questions
Why is Noise cancellation missing?
Availability depends on the account and meeting configuration. Look for Studio sound as well, confirm the active Google account and ask your administrator if necessary.
Can I use KleenMic without Meet’s noise cancellation setting?
Yes. Select KleenMic Microphone as Meet’s input after setting up KleenMic. The separate filter runs before the signal reaches the meeting app.
