Quick answer

Try the free controls already available in your calling app first. If you want one filtered microphone across apps, compare dedicated tools. Keep a meeting bundle if its extra features matter to you.

We make KleenMic. This is a comparison of documented features and pricing, checked on 19 October 2026. It is not a controlled sound-quality ranking.

A low purchase price does not establish better audio. Check compatibility and the work you need done, then listen with your own microphone.

Start with the free option

Apple Voice Isolation is worth trying when your calling app supports Mic Modes. It has no separate purchase. Built-in meeting-app controls can also be enough for a relatively quiet room.

Use a private call to decide whether there is a problem left to solve. Ask the listener about both remaining noise and missing syllables. If the free setting works well, installing another audio layer may add setup without a useful improvement.

When KleenMic fits

KleenMic creates a microphone input that you select in each calling app. It requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. Choose your real microphone in KleenMic, then select KleenMic Microphone in the meeting app.

The lifetime purchase is $20 for one Mac, with a 72-hour trial. The trial needs internet at first launch and each reopen. A paid license works offline for up to 30 days after a successful check, then needs to reconnect. There is no recurring subscription.

It is a call-audio utility, not a meeting-notes service. Read our setup guide to understand the routing before you switch.

When SoundVeil fits

SoundVeil also targets Mac microphone cleanup. Its current site offers monthly, annual and lifetime plans. It is an option if you prefer those payment choices; see our KleenMic and SoundVeil comparison for the practical differences.

When to keep Krisp

Krisp Core bundles noise cancellation with meeting features. If you use its notes or recording, calculate the cost and effort of replacing those too. A cheaper microphone filter is not a complete replacement for a broader workflow.

Privacy comparisons also need precision. Krisp says its noise cancellation runs on the device. Treat recording and transcription as separate features when checking data handling.

Switch with a short test

  1. Write down the microphone and audio settings that currently work.
  2. Set up the replacement and use a private meeting, not an important live call.
  3. Read a sentence in a quiet room, then repeat while typing and with your usual background noise.
  4. Change one filter at a time. Listen for clipped words as well as residual noise.
  5. Reconnect your headset and check the selected microphone again.

Choose the tool that solves your actual call problem at a cost and level of setup you accept. A trial is more useful than a claim that one app is best for everyone.

Common questions

Is there a free Krisp alternative on Mac?

Try macOS Voice Isolation in a supported app or your calling app’s own noise controls. Availability varies. KleenMic is a paid app with a three-day trial.

Does KleenMic include AI meeting notes?

No. KleenMic focuses on microphone noise removal and echo control. It does not replace a note-taking or transcription workflow.
