A sound check works best with the setup you actually plan to use: the same microphone, the same headphones, and the same place you’ll sit during the call.

1. Check the input in KleenMic

Open the KleenMic menu-bar app and confirm that the selected microphone is the one you want to use. If you recently connected a headset or an external microphone, check this choice again.

Turn on Noise removal. A microphone chosen inside KleenMic and a microphone chosen inside your calling app serve different roles. KleenMic needs your physical input; your calling app needs KleenMic Microphone.

2. Listen with headphones

Put on headphones and use live Test Mode. Speak a short sentence at the volume you normally use on calls, then pause. Listen to the voice and the quiet space between words.

If you usually type while talking, try a little typing as part of the check. You’re listening to your own setup, in your own room, rather than relying only on a sample recorded elsewhere.

The website demo and Test Mode do different jobs. The website demo compares prerecorded audio. Live Test Mode lets you hear your selected microphone after processing, without saving a recording.

3. Choose a performance mode

KleenMic offers three modes. Start with Auto, then listen again if you want to explore a different balance.

  • Auto adapts to your Mac.
  • Quality prioritizes noise removal.
  • Efficient uses fewer resources.

Use the same short sentence when comparing modes. That makes it easier to focus on the change in sound. What you hear will depend on your microphone, voice, and environment.

4. Check your calling app

Open your calling app’s audio settings and confirm that KleenMic Microphone is selected as its microphone input. Check the app’s microphone level indicator or its own test feature, if one is available.

When you’ve finished listening, leave Test Mode and join your call. If you switch calling apps later, check the microphone selection there too.
