“On-device” describes where audio processing takes place. In KleenMic, noise removal runs locally on your Mac. Your microphone audio is not uploaded to a server for noise removal.
Processing on your Mac
KleenMic takes input from the microphone you select, processes that audio on your Mac, and makes the result available as KleenMic Microphone. Your calling app can use this processed input just as it uses another microphone.
You don’t need a KleenMic account to try the app. The three-day trial starts from first launch and does not require a credit card.
Local processing has a specific meaning. Your audio is never uploaded for KleenMic’s noise removal. Your calling app still handles the call itself.
Your calling app still handles your call
Selecting KleenMic Microphone changes the audio input your calling app receives. It does not replace Zoom, Teams, Meet, or another calling service.
The service you use still handles the conversation and has its own privacy settings and policies. On-device noise removal and the transmission of a call are separate parts of the setup.
Licensing and updates
Local audio processing does not mean every part of the app is disconnected from the internet. License activation checks your purchase key through KleenMic’s activation service and Payhip. Update checks retrieve public release information from GitHub.
Those requests do not include your audio. Activating a license requires an internet connection; an activated lifetime license remains usable offline.
Testing your microphone
Live Test Mode lets you listen to the processed microphone audio through your selected output. Use headphones for this check. Test Mode does not save a recording.
The audio comparison on the KleenMic home page is different: it plays prerecorded samples. The website does not ask for microphone access or record your voice.
